Electronic Health Record And Emergency Room Unconscious Essay

A woman was brought into your Emergency Room unconscious. She was the driver of a vehicle and was alone in the car. She has no purse or identification with her. The police were able to identify her by her license plate number. You are unable to obtain a history of this patient because you know nothing about her. How do you know what her allergies are or what medications she is currently taking? Thank goodness you are able to access her Electronic Health Record and obtain a complete history. An Electronic Health Record (EHR) is a computerized digital chart as opposed to a paper chart. This electronic record will contain the patient’s allergies, medications, diagnosis, labs, radiology reports and treatment plans. The Electronic Health Record impacts the delivery of health care and specifically nursing. This is because often time’s patients are unable to be a good historian of their health history. Family members are often times not very helpful either. The E HR makes it possible for all disciplines regardless of location to see what the other disciplines are doing. There are two different types of Electronic records. The Electronic Health Record (EHR) and the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). 1.
